Jennifer Smith, Ph.D.
Jennifer Smith, Ph.D. holds a doctoral degree in mIcrobiology and molecular cell sciences. She spent over twelve years of her career studying both animal and human respiratory viruses. She has considerable experience in vaccine development and preclinical testing of candidate vaccines for viruses of public health importance such as influenza and Ebola. Jennifer spent the last nearly five years working as an epidemiologist and influenza surveillance coordinator in disease outbreak control at the Hawaii Department of Health. She worked on the frontlines of the pandemic response efforts by identifying and investigating 700+ individual cases and close contacts as well as active monitoring of travelers. Her main goal has always been to have a positive impact on the health of people and the community.
