Michael Horwin, M.A., J.D. lost his son Alexander to a brain cancer (medulloblastoma) when Alexander was two and a half years old. Alexander’s brain cancer was tested by four independent research labs and all four found that it contained SV40. Michael and his wife Raphaele were tested for SV40. They did not carry the virus. Alexander’s cord blood (the blood left in the umbilical cord after a baby is born) had been banked and it was tested for SV40. It did not contain the virus. These tests demonstrated that Alexander was born free of SV40 and he didn’t get the virus from his parents. Alexander’s medulloblastoma was estimated to have started growing after he received his oral polio vaccine. Based on public documents, the Horwins allege that the polio vaccine administered to Alexander was contaminated with SV40.
