Protecting Children from Wireless Radiation at School

Why This Matters

Most parents and guardians aren’t aware of the serious health risks associated with wireless radiation exposure, yet their children are exposed to it every day, and from multiple sources, at school. Tablets and laptops radiate near their bodies, Wi-Fi routers are mounted in every classroom, and cell towers are often installed on or near playgrounds. Children are being exposed to harmful levels of wireless radiation without parental knowledge or consent, adequate safety guidelines, or public discussion about how this technology is deployed in schools.

The modern classrooms rely on high-powered Wi-Fi networks that run all day, even when not in use. Students are expected to use wireless devices like laptops and tablets for hours, and usually without any instruction on safer usage. Additionally, 5G antennas and cell towers are being installed on and near school grounds, often without notifying families or conducting any substantive health impact reviews.

Children are especially vulnerable to wireless radiation exposure. Their developing brains and bodies absorb more radiation than adults, and they will experience longer cumulative exposure during their lifetimes. Numerous scientific studies have linked prolonged radiofrequency (RF) radiation exposure to sleep disruption, behavioral issues, memory problems, and even cancer. Just this year, a systematic review commissioned by the World Health Organization (WHO) concluded there is “high certainty” evidence that wireless radiation exposure causes cancer in animals. Yet most schools across the country have not considered this risk or implemented any protective policies.

This is not about fear — it is about informed choice, basic transparency, and protecting children’s rights. Families have the right to know what technologies are being used around their children and what safer alternatives exist. With wired options, clear policies, and greater awareness, schools can reduce unnecessary exposure while supporting high-quality learning. Change starts when awareness grows – we need empowered parents to start asking the right questions.
