Autism

Where We Are Now & Where We're Going

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 26.7% of individuals with autism spectrum disorder meet the criteria for profound autism.

For those affected at this level, daily life can be extraordinarily limiting. Many are rarely able to leave their homes due to the severity of their condition. Their experiences are often unseen, but they are very real. Recognizing and bringing awareness to profound autism is essential—not only to better support these individuals and their families today, but to deepen our understanding and work toward reducing its impact in the future.

Autism Prevalence increasing from 1 in 1,000 in the 1970s to 1 in 36 in 2023

Autism Through The Years

In the 1970’s, 1 in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. Today, that number has skyrocketed to 1 in 31.

There are more toxic chemicals in our environment than ever before. Together with an ever-expanding childhood vaccine schedule, these toxic exposures are fueling the rise in autism — highlighting the urgent need to identify the exact causes and reduce or eliminate them.

What was once rare is now everywhere.

Government agencies still tell us, “We don’t know what causes autism.” That is unconscionable. We deserve answers from our public servants — accurate and actionable answers. And we at CHD plan to get them.
