Executive Assistant

Supervisor: Executive Director
Department: Operations
Location: Remote, East Coast strongly preferred
Salary: Commensurate with skills and experience
Benefits: Insurance and vacation
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday during U.S. business hours

Position description:

This Executive Assistant (EA) will be a trusted partner to the Executive Director (ED,) and must have an acute awareness of and alignment to CHD’s mission and goals. The EA will be providing high-level administrative support to the ED, ensuring they can efficiently accomplish key tasks and company initiatives. This entails keeping the executive’s communications organized so that they can easily access the most important information without having to sort through low-priority items, and screening all requests to determine what level of support is needed. This EA must be a master of detail to manage the executive’s daily calendar, write agendas, arrange travel, create/edit reports and help coordinate key projects. 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Help keep track of the progress of ongoing CHD projects.
  • Filter and prioritize messages and phone calls, and communicate on behalf of the ED.
  • Provide administrative assistance, such as writing and editing e-mails, drafting memos, creating/editing spreadsheets, preparing/editing reports and preparing communications on the ED’s behalf.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records. 
  • Perform minor accounting duties such as submitting receipts for reimbursements.
  • Organize meetings, including scheduling, sending reminders, and creating agendas when necessary.
  • Manage the executive’s calendar, including making appointments and prioritizing the most sensitive matters, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience.
  • East Coast location strongly preferred.
  • Superior problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proactivity and self-direction.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Microsoft Office, G Suite proficiency; Notion and Slack proficiency preferred.
  • Superior time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Reporters for The Defender

Supervisor: Editor-in-Chief
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours a week
Hourly rate/Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications
Location: Remote

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY unless you have at least four years of experience as a reporter.

Reporters work directly with the editor-in-chief and senior editor to develop story ideas. The reporter is responsible for pitching the editors daily. Reporters must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and turn 1-3 articles a day.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years experience working as reporter/editor.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field with an exceptional understanding of online news + inverted pyramid style of reporting.
  • Avid reader of The Defender and ready to hit the ground running.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with a strong knowledge of AP Stylebook.
  • Experience using G Suite.
  • Strong understanding of SEO.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Google Analytics.
  • Hard-working and excellent team player.
