It was found that men are more likely to develop Crohn’s disease than women, while the prevalence of ulcerative colitis did not show a significant gender difference.

Additionally, White individuals had the highest rates of IBD, followed by Black, Hispanic and Asian populations. These disparities suggest that genetic and environmental factors interact in complex ways to influence IBD risk.

Antibiotic overuse significantly boosts IBD risk in U.S. adults

A separate study investigated the relationship between antibiotic usage and the development of IBD among older adults in the U.S.
