Children’s Health Defense Chairman Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared this week on The Minimalists Podcast where he talked about the relationship between minimalism and environmentalism with hosts Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus.

Kennedy explained his view of market capitalism, where a product’s true cost would be worked into the final price, and companies would be incentivized to “do well by doing good.” In today’s market, corporations aren’t allowed to act altruistically because they’re legally required to prioritize the short-term economic interests of shareholders.

“Are companies going to make decisions that are good for humanity?,” Kennedy asks. “Or are they going to make decisions that are good for their shareholders? You can design markets any way you want, why not design the market so people can make money while doing good things for humanity.”
