Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Sunday said President Trump “certainly” wants him to investigate perceived links between autism and vaccines. Kennedy made the remark during a heated interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” when Bash asked if the Wall Street Journal was accurate in reporting that Trump wants Kennedy to “probe the link.” “He certainly does,” Kennedy said.
Bash pressed on about why HHS does not study potential causes of autism after establishing that experts have “studied this for 25 years and found no link between autism and vaccines.” Kennedy attempted to address Tylenol, which the Trump administration late last year linked to autism, as an example of the work at HHS before Bash, as Kennedy remarked, began rolling her eyes.

Dr. Anthony Fauci privately believed that the death rate of the COVID-19 was much lower than he told Congress just one month later, according to a record kept by the health official from February 2020. The diary entry was made public by Sen. Rand Paul, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, prior to Dr. Fauci’s testimony July 29. During his appearance, Fauci refused to answer any substantive questions and cited the 5th Amendment more than 110 times.
During his time as the leading government health official during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci kept a meticulous record of his meetings, phone calls, and other day-to-day activities. Fauci has faced scrutiny from Republicans for years for his role in the early response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force that included recommendations for school closures and social distancing.
On March 11, 2020, as the coronavirus spread beyond China to Europe and the United States, Fauci told the House Oversight Committee that he estimated COVID-19’s fatality at 3% and told lawmakers it was much more deadly than the seasonal flu.

During Friday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher called out Fauci for telling “actual lies” about the origins of the virus responsible for over seven million confirmed deaths worldwide following Fauci’s Senate hearing on Wednesday. “He was caught in actual lies,” Maher said, adding, “The big issue to me is the origin of this, which is very important. How did it start?”
The comedian pointed to Fauci’s previous assertions that the virus originated through animal-to-human contact at a wet market in Wuhan, China. “He was telling people up front when it first began [that] it was from the wet markets. It could not — that’s a conspiracy theory — if you say it escaped from the lab,” Maher said. “And he knew better,” Maher continued. “Because we have him in his diary telling us what he was saying to other scientists, who were saying, ‘No, absolutely.’”

Fauci came across as a remarkable narcissist, someone obsessed with his own instant and surprising fame. He chronicled each and every media appearance, celebrating anytime a legacy outlet wrote yet another glowing, reverential profile. He spoke excitedly about his friendships with celebrities like Joan Baez and Barbra Streisand, saying that he and Baez were made for each other.
Importantly, he also said completely different things privately than he was saying publicly. He acknowledged in his diary that the lab leak was not only possible, but likely. He admitted that he wanted masks mandated because people were wearing them anyway and the CDC had pushed it.
He knew closures weren’t working, saying that cases were rising and falling irrespective of policy. He even fretted about potentially contacting COVID-19 at an event that required proof of vaccination. Then went on to demand more vaccine mandates and passports afterward anyway.
