Children’s Health Defense (CHD) mourns the passing of Dr. Mikael Nordfors, a Swedish physician who played an active part in COVID-19 roundtables organized by CHD.
Dr. Nordfors was born Dec. 22, 1958, and died Aug. 20 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he had relocated.
Colorful, talented and known for speaking truth to power, Mikael was a passionate advocate for health, democracy, freedom and beauty. His passing brought great sadness to those who knew him and admired his unique talents and contributions.
“Mikael Nordfors had a life fully lived,” said Dr. Meryl Nass. “He was enthusiastic, wildly optimistic. He made movies, songs, and as a doctor used leading-edge alternative treatments.”
Nass, a member of CHD’s scientific advisory committee, added:
“Mikael was convinced of his abilities. He was childlike, loved lolling on the Zanzibar beach during Zoom calls. He bounced around from Europe to Africa and back. He was full of life. And now he is gone.
“Some people are almost too large for this life. Mikael was a large square peg who did not even bother trying to fit into the available round holes. May his soul rest in peace and may his family let him go with love.”
An accomplished musician, Mikael’s work in the medical field included working with integrative, holistic cancer treatment, psychiatric problems and various forms of pain relief.
He was co-author of the international bestseller, “Hypericum & Depression,” which introduced the antidepressant St. John’s wort to the non-German-speaking part of the world.
Mikael advocated for a medical system based on true science, not one that is divided into allopathic medicine, alternative medicine, Ayurvedic medicine and Chinese medicine.
He also for a long time was involved in the movement for Digital Direct Democracy, or liquid democracy, and was the first person to successfully implement delegated voting in a real political context with his former company, Vivarto AB.
“Mikael was a man of outstanding spirit, humour and creativity,” said John Stone, comment moderator for The Defender. “‘Larger than life’ is the phrase that ought to have been invented specially for him. What a wonderful man and a great heart.”
Shimon Yanowitz, a colleague of Mikael, said:
“I had the pleasure of getting to know Mikael some three years ago. Mikael was a very impressive person because of his many talents. In addition to being a medical doctor, he was also a writer, a musician and a software entrepreneur.
“Mikael was a man of truth, and has always spoken his mind. About two years ago, Mikael became quite sick with some ailment that affected him emotionally and physically. At around that time, he decided to move to Tanzania, where he was hoping to start a clinic for the benefit of Tanzanians. I think he gradually started feeling very lonely there.”
