NFL Getting Pushback on Facial Recognition Protocol

The Sporting News reported:

There are plenty of changes coming to the NFL this season. Between banishing the hip-drop tackles to alterations to the kickoffs, there will be much to adjust to for the 2024 season.

Those switches aren’t just on the field either. There are some changes coming to the off-the-field measures that stadium staff have to deal with — and not everyone is on board.

In July, it was first reported by the Sports Business Journal that the NFL would be implementing a new security system based on facial recognition for specific areas in all 32 stadiums. This is the next step after the six-stadium pilot program that was used in 2023.

While the concept might make sense, not all parties involved are OK with these new measures.

Here is more on the facial recognition system and why some are fighting against it.

The NFL’s new facial authentication software will be used for “high-security zones” including the playing field, locker room, and press box. This will require thousands of staff, vendors, and media members to verify their face with the system in order to enter specific areas.

It is designed to prohibit unauthorized members from gaining access to specific areas. The high-security zones will have a real-time image of their face taken to compare to the previously submitted photo on file.

Fauci Wants to Bring Back MASKS After Contracting COVID (Despite Being Vaccinated SIX TIMES)

Daily Mail reported:

Dr. Anthony Fauci is again recommending that people don face masks as COVID-19 cases rise.

The number of infections is increasing as part of another summer surge — even though hospitalizations and deaths from the virus remain at historic lows.

On Monday, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease said: “The message is that if you are in a risk category you have got to take this seriously.”

The 83-year-old told people with comorbidities and seniors “you should be wearing a mask” in crowded places.

He also revealed he had contracted COVID-19 about two weeks ago. It was his third COVID-19 infection and he has been vaccinated and boosted a total of six times.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom Nudges School Districts to Restrict Student Cellphone Use

ABC News reported:

California and South Carolina could become the next states to limit cellphone use in schools, with state officials taking up the issue Tuesday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is sending letters to school districts, urging them to restrict students’ use of smartphones on campus. South Carolina’s State Board of Education took up guidelines to tell local districts to ban cellphone use during class time, but postponed a final vote until next month to take more time to craft the proposal.

The efforts mark a broader push by officials in Utah, Florida, Louisiana and elsewhere to try to limit cellphone use in schools in order to reduce distractions in the classroom — and address the impacts of social media on the mental health of children and teens.

Hackers May Have Stolen the Social Security Numbers of Every American. How to Protect Yourself

Los Angeles Times reported:

About four months after a notorious hacking group claimed to have stolen an extraordinary amount of sensitive personal information from a major data broker, a member of the group has reportedly released most of it for free on an online marketplace for stolen personal data.

The breach, which includes Social Security numbers and other sensitive data, could power a raft of identity theft, fraud and other crimes, said Teresa Murray, consumer watchdog director for the U.S. Public Information Research Group.

“If this in fact is pretty much the whole dossier on all of us, it certainly is much more concerning” than prior breaches, Murray said in an interview. “And if people weren’t taking precautions in the past, which they should have been doing, this should be a five-alarm wake-up call for them.”

A Woman’s Facebook Nightmare After Her Entire Phone’s Camera Roll Becomes Public

Fox News reported:

Imagine logging into your Facebook account to see every single photo (yes, even those photos) posted on your profile for everyone to see. We received an email from Deborah, who had this exact nightmare happen to her:

“I recently discovered my Facebook account tricked me into having given them permission for my entire camera roll on my phone. Everything was available in my photos for anyone to view. I had taken pictures of my double mastectomy. When I clicked on photos on my FB [Facebook] page, I was startled to see EVERYTHING. Now I won’t put any photos on my phone [except] my profile picture.”

There are a variety of settings on Facebook that allow this situation to happen and how to prevent this from happening to you.

Whether it is the embarrassing number of selfies you’ve taken or personally sensitive photos you took and forgot about, having all your photos and videos blasted for all to view on Facebook is quite a nightmare. Whether it is Facebook or another app, it is always a good idea to limit their access to your camera roll and check the privacy settings within these apps.
