Florida’s two Medical Examiners’ Duties Bills—also known as the “SIDS bills”—are in danger of dying on the vine if they don’t get placed on the relevant committee agendas in the House and Senate by February 9.

SB188 is in the Florida Senate Health Policy Committee and HB819 is in the Florida House Health Professions & Programs Subcommittee – but both still need to be officially placed on the committees’ agendas in order to advance.

This landmark legislation will establish long overdue guidelines for more thorough investigation of sudden and unexpected deaths in youth. Only through increased consistency, transparency and accountability in reporting on these devastating events will we be able to prevent future loss of life, including to infants, children, and young adults.

It’s critical that you take action TODAY by contacting the Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs both through this alert and by phone, urging them to add SB188 and HB819 to the Senate and House Committee agendas by February 9. Please share this alert with fellow Floridians and encourage them to act as well. We need to have maximum impact on the decision-makers overseeing these groundbreaking bills.
