Our Autism Story: 31-Year-Old With High-functioning Autism Had All the Childhood Vaccines
By Denise Bunty
Editor’s note: In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, we invited members of the CHD community to submit their personal stories about autism, and how it has affected them and their families.
My son is 31 years old and is high-functioning autistic.
When he was young, he was diagnosed with ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder), Tourette’s disorder, Obesity, ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), Lyme disease and Asperger’s.
He had seizures, but they are gone. He had all of the children’s vaccines.
I had many problems with him in school. He did graduate from high school and art college.
He was on many medicines like Concerta, Ritalin, Clonidine, and Adderall. The medicine did not seem to work.
He is married and has a job working two days with disabled and Autistic adults. He is now on Medical Marijuana, something for anxiety and ADHD. I did have biofeedback done on him. That seems to slow his hyperness down.
I think it was from the vaccines — he thinks he inherited it from his father.
