Honoring Children’s Health Defense Colleague and Friend, Nande Ball
Nande Morissa Samuel Ball, age 37, died Dec. 9, leaving behind her adored son, 4-year-old Clayton Ball and many other family members and friends. Nande joined Children’s Health Defense in April 2023. She played a critical role as CHD’s development database manager.
With great sadness, Children’s Health Defense (CHD) announces the passing of our friend and colleague, Nande Morissa Samuel Ball. Nande passed away Dec. 9 at the young age of 37 following a valiant fight against cancer.
Nande joined CHD in April 2023, where she played a critical role as the organization’s development database manager. She was an active and beloved member of the CHD team up until just a few days before her death.
“Nande was upfront about her struggle with cancer, but she never let it define her,” said Giorgio Zeolla, CHD’s chief development officer. “She excelled at her job. And she was invigorated by it. Being a part of this organization meant everything to Nande. We are grateful for her work ethic, her vibrant spirit and her dedication to CHD’s mission. Children’s Health Defense is committed to honoring Nande by continuing this fight for health freedom that meant so much to her.”

Nande, who lived in New Jersey, was born on Feb. 26, 1987, in Trinidad. She is survived by her husband, Richard Ball; her son, Clayton Ball; her mother, Bernadine Samuel; her brother, Kevon Samuel; and her sister, Talia Samuel. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Samuel.
Nande was known for her “unyielding spirit, determination, ambition, selflessness and a deep love for the color purple,” according to her family, who also said:
“Nande had boundless love and unwavering devotion to her son, Clayton. She loved him more than anything in the world. Nande was deeply passionate about her work and found immense fulfillment in it.
“She often spoke fondly of her dedicated and hardworking coworkers, highlighting the positive and enjoyable atmosphere they shared. Her love for what she did was evident in the commitment and effort she put into every task.
“Her personal interests included a variety of hobbies that kept her active and creative. She engaged in physical activities like Zumba and weight training and also found solace and expression in journaling, painting, fixing things and writing poems.”
A 2016 graduate of the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, Nande previously worked for the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
A memorial service to celebrate Nande’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST, at 241 Bordentown Ave, South Amboy, NJ, 08879. Friends and co-workers can add memories and messages to the family here.
