Sitka’s Planning Commission made the right call when it denied a variance request to bypass height restrictions for an oversized 120-foot communications tower in a residential zone. But the fight isn’t over. Tidal Network has filed an appeal, putting the health, safety, and character of Sitka’s neighborhoods at risk. The City Assembly declined to rule on whether to uphold or overturn that decision and instead referred this important decision to the Alaska State Office of Administrative Hearings.

Mounting scientific evidence shows that wireless radiation poses serious risks to the health, safety, and well-being of children, adults, animals, and the environment. Sitka for Safe Tech is preparing a strong legal and community response to defend the Commission’s decision and protect Sitka from precedent-setting overreach by the telecom industry.
