With chronic health conditions also on the rise, schools are faced with additional challenges of providing for students’ medical needs plus accommodating for the increasing number of children with behavioral issues. Schools are being forced to deal with this epidemic and provide solutions. But addressing the needs of all children is prohibitive for most districts which already lack funding to meet the basic needs of special education students. The answers are complex and will need massive funding. Yet our health officials are burying their heads in the sand.
