In his new book, “Deception: The Great COVID Cover-Up,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) details the “catastrophic failures of the public health emergency during the pandemic.”
Addressing the gain-of-function research funded in part by the U.S. government, Paul claims Dr. Anthony Fauci and “his scientific yes-men” not only knew the SARS-CoV-2 virus originated at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) but worked to cover it up and attack anyone threatening to reveal the truth.
Paul also covers the lockdowns that came at Fauci’s insistence, at the cost of what Paul said was widespread economic destruction and great personal suffering by millions.
In an interview last week discussing his book with Jack Posobiec on Real America’s Voice, Paul recalled his contentious back-and-forth with Fauci during congressional hearings and his referrals of Fauci for criminal prosecution to the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Other than prosecuting Anthony Fauci, it is important to remember that the truth be told and that people see the evidence laid out that this virus did come from a lab,” Paul told Posobiec. “It came from gain-of-function research that we were funding, that Anthony Fauci was funding.”
He also noted the conflicts of interest that Fauci was unwilling to reveal.
“When I asked him directly under oath whether or not he was receiving royalties from any of the companies manufacturing vaccines, he refused to answer,” Paul said. “You shouldn’t be allowed to be voting on a committee if you’re receiving money from the companies that are going to make billions of dollars because of your decision.”
When Fox News’ Sean Hannity asked Paul in a recent interview whether Fauci belongs in jail, he answered, “Without question.”
Paul told Hannity that Fauci and his cohorts were deceiving the public with their comments on the virus’ origins.
“In public he’s saying, ‘Oh, if you say it came from the lab, you’re a conspiracy theorist, you’re crazy, it’s a fringe theory,’” Paul said. “But in private, he’s saying … ‘We’re very concerned because the virus appears to be manipulated … and because we know they’re doing gain-of-function research in Wuhan.’”
Paul’s medical background clued him in to deception early in pandemic
In his book, Paul, a practicing ophthalmologist for 30 years, recalled returning from his COVID-19 sabbatical in the spring of 2020 and being “angrily and self-righteously excoriated” for not wearing a mask by a masked-up “gaggle of young journalists.”
“I calmly explained to them that the benefit of having survived COVID-19 was that I now had immunity,” he wrote. “They challenged me, saying that I didn’t know how long my immunity would last.”
Despite telling others a lab analysis of his blood determined he had a robust antibody response to the virus, “All previous knowledge of immunity seemed to have been discarded,” he wrote.
“Our media repeatedly and stupidly conflated the use of masking in clinical and surgical settings involving body fluid spatter and bacterial infection with effectiveness against viruses 10 times smaller than the smallest bacteria in public settings,” he wrote.
Though Fauci played along publicly, Paul pointed to private emails where Fauci advised people not to bother with masking, telling one personal friend, “The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out the virus, which is small enough to pass through material.”
Paul wrote that he publicly shared information about numerous randomized controlled trials showing that masks were ineffective at preventing viral transmission, including the 2020 Danish mask study, but was “portrayed as the person who did not ‘believe the science.’”
“In America, under the cult of personality around Fauci, science was bastardized into something akin to religion,” Paul wrote. “And yet the media accused anyone who challenged the dogma of somehow ‘politicizing’ the virus.”
